Got this today from NWTF Biologist Jason Lupardus. Â They hunted Merriam’s in western Nebraska last week.
We hunted up near the Nebraska/South Dakota line this week and the action was no less than sizzling Hot! The Merriam’s were hammer gobbling each day. We had great weather & conditions to compliment the beautiful scenery. The number of Super Jakes out here this year is very high, as they were gobbling as good as a mature bird. Birds are definitely split up & are actively breeding. We had the most success working the hens that accompanied the long beards. The raspy box call and aluminum pot calls worked the best. Stay aggressive & remember that you can’t over call birds here!

A great Merriam turkey harvested near Valentine, Nebraska.
Good luck & safe shooting!
